Photostability Chambers

Our photostability reach-in chambers are ideal for stress testing the effect of ultraviolet (UV) and cool white (CW) light on consumer goods, packaging, and pharmaceutical products.

Each chamber features a cutting-edge, customized lighting system with fluorescent lamps strategically placed for uniform light distribution. Intensity within units is easily and individually controlled at each light bank with a microprocessor-based controller and a photo diode sensor for a fully automated, closed-loop system. The larger, upright floor model can even accommodate multiple studies simultaneously, thanks to adjustable lighting levels on each of its three separate product shelves.

These reach-ins are suitable for testing a wide range of products in multiple industries, including:

  • Pharmaceutical
  • Nutraceuticals
  • Cosmetics
  • Personal hygiene
  • Food and beverage

Versatile Photostability Chamber Design

Our reach-in photostability chambers come in two standard models. We offer an array of customizations and lighting features to help customers meet their unique testing requirements, including International Council for Harmonisation (ICH) standards.

  • Maintain temperatures between +20°C and +40°C
  • Optional setpoints as low as +5°C
  • Controlled humidification
  • Compliance with ICH Q1B Option 2 standards for CW and UV exposure
    • Full spectrum lamps available on request to meet ICH Q1B Option 1
  • Twenty-two-gauge, stainless-steel interior
  • Scratch-resistant enamel exterior
  • Three-inch, closed-cell urethane insulation to promote superior temperature stability and minimal heat transfer
  • Heavy-duty door hinges, full peripheral magnetic door gaskets, and positive-action latch with lock for a secure, uniform seal
  • Shelving supports up to 130 pounds of distributed load
  • Dual-source light banks—combining UV and CW lamps—available, promoting efficiency and minimizing handling time by eliminating the need to transfer product lines
    • Standard in benchtop model
    • Upright model supports individual or combined configurations
  • Automatic adjustment of lamp output to maintain intensity at varied conditions
  • Self-dimming ballast
  • Independent light level and timing controls at each individual light bank with timers for precise testing durations
  • Upright model shelving features individual front reflector panels that allow doors to open without disturbing tests on other shelves
  • Uniform light distribution

  • “Thanks again for the support in getting us to this stage eventually – finding an incubator that meets our temperature spec has been a challenge for us for the last few years and this is a significant milestone for the business. Hopefully we will have more good news to report in the new year.”

    Project Engineer, Major Biotechnology Manufacturer

  • “During a recent external audit, an inspector requested the PM/Cal documents for the stability chambers. It was my pleasure to give him the nicely presented binders. I could tell he was impressed.

Thanks for the great service you have provided for us over the years.”

  • “Environmental Specialties has always provided me with great service. All the individuals I worked with were knowledgeable about ES products and services.  They were highly skilled. I relied on ES for pm, calibration, qualification, repair, chamber sourcing and consultations. I interacted with a lot of your employees.  The feedback was always spot on. They were always smiling and supportive even in the most difficult situations. ES is a great company with good people.”
